A good weekend

Great news. We picked up the car and it started. Even better intern lover (aka Carrot top) drove it back and it didn't stop all the way. At one point even taking the lead from the mighty Golf

If you are still looking for a car the chap we got ours from has another potential: Opal Corsa. Drop me a mail I can send details (tom dot mcinerney at gmail dot com)

Weather could have been better this weekend. Oh and took the liberty of uploading some in action motorway shots...obviously not taken by myself (safety first) in the gallery - something to perk up your Sunday.

Over and out

Car: Check

Finally bay of electronics comes through and a reasonable LHD car turns up. We grab it (2 seconds to go - they didn't stand a chance) and suddenly talking about the rally goes from 'when' not 'if' . Good form. Even a celebratory beer (shandy, obviously)

Other good news: We have our route planned including country exit and entry points. Nice. Can't plan for things going wrong - high chance - but at least we know what town we could walk to next.

btw - WE NEED MORE SPONSERS! job one Monday methinks.

Well done UK for the weather - more weekends like this please? Thannnnnnnkyou. Pity no beach/99 to enjoy it with.

Cives Romani

Welcome fellow rotw rally types - we made the Friday update (what - you think we are above any free press? That would be a no) so in the spirit of goodwill (and hoping for a gin and juice when we arrive at Budapest) and being IT types we are happy to help setup your website (it's not rocket science for sure...but we are just offering!) let me know tom.mcinerney@gmail.com I'll rope in Russ and Carrot top

Photos to be taken

Whilst I sit watching the local election results come in (FYI in the last 20 minutes two councils have announced results...now that’s time filling!) Some thoughts about the various photos we are planning to get as we travel on our journey

  • Outside HRH pad #1 London
  • The Eifel tower in Paris
  • Eating a Weißwürste in Munich
  • Reading a book in the Library of the University of Vienna (Only the Paranoid Survive perhaps?)
  • Saving a goal in the Tehelné pole stadium Bratislava
  • On the Castle Hill Funicular in Buda hills, Budapest (and obviously a photo from the team gatherin
Any other suggestions? Question is...how do you charge a digital camera?

Two updates for today

Nice summary carrot top.

You are quite correct; relinquishing my smart phone will be as tough as finding ladies in Swindon. (i.e. tough)

Two things of note today:

So what’s this madness you talk of?!

This summer 3 friends from sunny Swindon will be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime. After acquiring a left-hand drive car for around £150 they will be driving almost 4000 miles through more than 15 countries spreading British tea (this is not a euphemism) along the way. Yes that’s right we have every intention of stopping, sitting down and sharing a nice cuppa with all the friendly locals we meet!

We are one of only 15 teams from all over the world taking part in Roof of the World (ROTW) Rally 2008. Starting in Tea Lane, London and finishing in Quergon-Teppa, Tajikistan. Who knows how long this will take or what will happen on route?! One thing is for certain; it’s unlikely that Tom will survive without his smart phone for more than a few days!!

So why are we doing this? Well for two reason: 1) Adventure - did I mention that we will be travelling in a car that will cost about £150 and that we need to cover 4000 miles? Oh and by the way backup is for wimps we’ll be on all on our own with only Russ’s good looks to get us out of any tricky situations. 2) Charity - An English man called Paul Marchant, from Tonbridge and Shurat Khodjaev a Tajik national established an English and Education Centre which performs amazing work and runs brilliant projects in Quergon-Teppa. We will be raising money for the official charity SWORDE-Teppa as well as taking essential supplies, and giving out donated gifts along the way as we travel across some of the remotest countries in the World.

We are currently working hard on sourcing a trusty LHD steed for the journey and sorting out all the Visas we need but we also need lots of equipment and supplies to get us through the trip. If there is anything on this list that you can help us with please get in touch.
